FABIANA

Callistoctopus macropus, red white-spotted octopus known as Fabiana, Tenerife diving

Fabiana is one of the most charismatic and elegant residents of Tenerife’s reefs. Unlike the common octopus, the White-Spotted Octopus (Callistoctopus macropus) is easily recognized by its long, slender arms and its stunning reddish-brown skin adorned with bright white fluorescent spots.

While they are primarily nocturnal hunters, Fabiana is often seen by divers during late afternoon or night dives, gracefully moving between volcanic rocks and crevices. These octopuses are masters of transformation, not only changing their color but also their texture to blend perfectly with the reef.

Observing Fabiana is a highlight for any diver in the Canary Islands. Her presence reminds us of the incredible biodiversity hidden in our waters and the importance of respecting these intelligent cephalopods in their natural habitat.
