CUTTLEFISH

Sepia officinalis, common cuttlefish displaying camouflage patterns, Tenerife diving

Cuttlefish are intelligent marine mollusks belonging to the cephalopod family, closely related to octopuses and squids. They are best known for their ability to rapidly change color and texture using specialized skin cells, allowing them to camouflage, communicate, and hunt. Cuttlefish have a soft, oval-shaped body, large W-shaped pupils, and internal shell called a cuttlebone that helps control buoyancy. They live mainly in shallow coastal waters, feeding on crustaceans, fish, and small mollusks.
