BULL RAY

Atlantic Bull Ray, el chucho, diving on Tenerife, fauna canaria, marine life

The Bull Ray is one of the most impressive rays you can encounter while diving in Tenerife. Known for its large wingspan, dark coloration, and graceful movement, this species often glides close to sandy bottoms in search of food. Despite their size, Bull Rays are calm, gentle, and completely harmless when observed respectfully.

Tenerife’s volcanic seabed and abundant marine life make encounters with these beautiful rays unforgettable for divers of all levels. We can spot them almost in any dive site on the depth 10-40 m.

Bull Rays generally reproduce in late spring and summer. In the Canary Islands, observations suggest that mating and pupping typically occur between May and August, when the water is warmer and food is abundant. They are ovoviviparous, which means females give birth to live pups after carrying the embryos inside for several months.
